Best Wedding Venues
in Winnipeg
for 2026

By Chris Ngo January 2026 Winnipeg, Manitoba

There are a lot of "best venues" lists online. Most are written by people who've never set foot in these spaces. This one is different. I'm Chris Ngo — a Winnipeg wedding photographer — and every venue on this list is one I've personally shot a wedding at. I know how the light moves through each room at 4 pm. I know which hallway creates the best portraits. I know what your photos will actually look like at the end of the day. This is the guide I wish every engaged couple in Winnipeg had before they booked their venue.

Venue 01 — Canadian Museum for Human Rights

There is no venue in Canada — I'll say Canada, not just Winnipeg — that photographs like the CMHR. The architecture is genuinely unlike anything else: alabaster walls that glow like warm ivory in the afternoon, ramps that spiral upward through the building's core, a glass tower that floods the upper galleries with sky, and a Garden of Contemplation that reads like a serene outdoor sanctuary in the middle of the city. For a wedding photographer, it's a dream with almost no ceiling on what you can create.

I had the privilege of photographing Stef and Brett's New Year's Eve wedding here in December 2025. They used the museum for portraits and formal photos in the evening — after the church ceremony and before their Fort Garry Hotel reception — and even with just a couple of hours, we filled an entire gallery's worth of images that feel like nothing else in their collection. The spiraling ramps are endlessly dynamic. The alabaster walls bounce soft, directional light. The glass tower at golden hour turns everything cinematic.

What Makes It Special for Photography

The CMHR has multiple distinct environments within a single building — the alabaster ramps, the Winnipeg Galleries with their dark stone floors, the bright glass atrium, the Garden of Contemplation, and the exterior plaza overlooking The Forks. This means a single wedding at the CMHR can produce images that look like they were shot at four different venues. There is no other venue in Winnipeg that offers this kind of variety in a compact space.

Things to Know Before You Book

The CMHR is a working museum, so wedding access is typically limited to evenings and special event windows. Photography tends to be most stunning in the late afternoon and early evening when the light from the glass tower is at its warmest. Plan your portrait window between 4 and 7 pm if you can. Budget for a significant venue rental fee — this is a premium venue — and coordinate early with their events team, as popular dates fill quickly. Read the full story of Stef & Brett's CMHR New Year's Eve wedding here.

Venue 02 — The Fort Garry Hotel

If the CMHR is Winnipeg's most dramatic venue, the Fort Garry Hotel is its most elegant. Opened in 1913 as a grand railway hotel, the Fort Garry has hosted over a century of Winnipeg's most important celebrations — and it shows in the best possible way. The ballroom is one of the most beautiful rooms in the province: soaring ceilings, crystal chandeliers, warm amber lighting, and a grandeur that makes every guest feel like they've stepped into another era.

I photographed Stef and Brett's reception here after their CMHR portraits, and the Fort Garry delivered what it always delivers — a venue that requires almost no effort to make beautiful. The marble lobby, the ornate corridors, and even the elevator doors are stunning backdrops for couple portraits. The building is a photographer's shortcut to images that look expensive, timeless, and deeply romantic without a single trick of the light.

Style Grand / Historic / Luxury
Best For Receptions, large guest lists
Location 222 Broadway, Winnipeg

What Makes It Special for Photography

The Fort Garry's greatest photographic asset is its consistency. Whether it's afternoon light in the lobby or midnight at the reception, the hotel photographs beautifully under almost any conditions. The warm amber tones of the ballroom are especially flattering — they flatter every skin tone and eliminate the clinical harshness you get in modern venue spaces. The ornate architectural details give you context and depth in every frame. The elevator, the spiral staircase, the marble floors — all of it is effortlessly luxurious.

Things to Know Before You Book

The Fort Garry books far in advance for peak dates. Their Grand Ballroom accommodates large guest lists comfortably, making it ideal for weddings with 150+ guests. For intimate weddings, they also offer smaller private dining rooms within the hotel. Evening light from the upper floors offers a beautiful view of Broadway — worth exploring with your photographer during the cocktail hour window.

Venue 03 — Buttercup Café & Celebration Hall

For couples who've always imagined a summer wedding surrounded by nature — an outdoor ceremony under a timber frame, golden light filtering through the trees, reception dinner in a glass greenhouse with the prairie stretching to the horizon — Buttercup Café is the answer. It's one of the most thoughtfully designed wedding venues in Manitoba, and it photographs in a way that feels completely different from anything you'd find inside city limits.

I shot Erin and Jayden's August wedding here in 2025 and it remains one of my favourite wedding days of the year. The timber pavilion ceremony space creates beautiful dappled light and a sense of openness that no indoor ceremony can replicate. The glass greenhouse reception hall is stunning in the evening — candlelit, warm, intimate — and the surrounding fields and gardens give you an almost unlimited canvas for portraits at golden hour. Prairie sunsets are on a different level entirely.

Style Outdoor / Rustic-Elegant / Prairie
Best For Summer / fall, intimate weddings
Location Near Winnipeg, Manitoba

What Makes It Special for Photography

Buttercup Café gives you more distinct photographic environments than most venues twice its size. The hexagonal ceremony arch, the garden walkways, the fountain courtyard, the greenhouse dining room, the surrounding fields — each one creates a completely different mood and aesthetic. And then the Manitoba prairie at golden hour turns everything into something almost otherworldly. The light here at 7–9 pm on a summer evening is extraordinary. If you've ever dreamed of dancing on a dirt road at sunset, this is where that happens.

Things to Know Before You Book

Buttercup Café is a summer and early fall venue — it's designed for outdoor celebrations, so late spring through September is the sweet spot. They host a limited number of weddings per season, so early booking is essential. Plan a full golden hour portrait session into your timeline — typically 60–90 minutes before sunset — because the surrounding fields are simply too beautiful to rush. Read the full story of Erin & Jayden's Buttercup Café wedding here.

Venue 04 — Holy Rosary Cathedral

For couples planning a Catholic ceremony in Winnipeg, Holy Rosary Cathedral on Edmonton Street is among the most photogenic churches in the province. Built in 1914, the cathedral's soaring Gothic arches, ornate altar, stained glass windows, and long centre aisle create a ceremony environment that is genuinely breathtaking — both for the couple standing at the altar and for the photographer documenting it.

I photographed Stef and Brett's ceremony here on New Year's Eve 2025, and the scale of the space does something remarkable: it makes even a crowded room feel like a private, sacred moment. The light through the stained glass windows creates naturally coloured, warm, directional light that is remarkably flattering for ceremony photography. The aisle is long enough to capture a wide composition as the bride walks toward the altar — one of the most important frames of the entire day.

Style Gothic / Sacred / Grand
Best For Catholic ceremonies, large weddings
Location 151 Edmonton St, Winnipeg

What Makes It Special for Photography

Few Winnipeg ceremony venues command the scale and grandeur of Holy Rosary. The long nave creates dramatic perspective lines — ideal for wide ceremony shots — and the Gothic arches frame the altar in a way that elevates every image. The stained glass provides warm, coloured ambient light that is extraordinarily flattering in natural light. I always recommend arriving early with your photographer to capture the quiet, empty church before guests arrive — the architecture alone makes for stunning editorial images.

Things to Know Before You Book

Holy Rosary Cathedral is an active parish, so ceremony timing must align with the parish's schedule. Photography policies vary and should be discussed with the officiant well in advance. Flash photography during the ceremony may be restricted — a photographer experienced in low-light, natural-light ceremony work is essential. The cathedral pairs beautifully with the Fort Garry Hotel for receptions, as they are within easy driving distance of each other.

Venue 05 — Breezy Bend Country Club

Tucked west of the city along the Assiniboine River, Breezy Bend Country Club is Winnipeg's most beautifully landscaped wedding venue. The private golf course grounds offer sweeping fairway vistas, mature tree lines, manicured gardens, and a clubhouse that photographs with the kind of relaxed elegance that never goes out of style. It's a venue that works equally well for a formal sit-down celebration and a joyful, loose reception where people actually dance.

Paul and Ayanna's summer wedding at Breezy Bend was a masterclass in warmth — a vibrant colour palette of lavender and orange, a wedding party that radiated pure joy, and a golden-hour sunset over the golf course that stopped everyone in their tracks. Breezy Bend gives you something rare in Winnipeg: genuine outdoor grandeur, without leaving the city.

Style Elegant / Lush / Outdoor-Forward
Best For Full-day weddings, golden hour portraits, large celebrations
Location St. James, Winnipeg (west end, near Assiniboine River)

What Makes It Special for Photography

Breezy Bend is one of the most photogenic venues in Winnipeg for one simple reason: the grounds. The fairways stretch out to a wide, unobstructed horizon — perfect for golden hour portraits that feel cinematic and grand. The mature tree lines along the course create natural framing for couples portraits, and the clubhouse itself has beautiful warm interior light for reception coverage. The venue also allows enough space to separate getting-ready, ceremony, portraits, and reception into visually distinct environments — which makes for a more dynamic and varied wedding gallery.

Things to Know Before You Book

Breezy Bend is a private country club, which means access and event scheduling follow club policies — work directly with their events coordinator early in your planning process. Summer weekends book quickly. A golden-hour portrait session built into your timeline is essentially mandatory here — the sunset over the fairways is too good to skip. Give yourself at least 45–60 minutes before sunset with your photographer. Read the full story of Paul & Ayanna's Breezy Bend wedding here.

"The fairways at Breezy Bend at 8 pm in July are genuinely cinematic. Wide sky, long light, total silence — it's one of the best golden hour venues in the city."

Venue 06 — Rudy's Eat & Drink

If the CMHR is Winnipeg's most architecturally dramatic wedding venue, Rudy's Eat & Drink is its coolest. Located in Winnipeg's Exchange District, Rudy's is a full-service restaurant and event space with industrial-chic bones — exposed brick, Edison bulbs, warm wood, and floor-to-ceiling windows with a downtown skyline view. It's the venue for couples who want their wedding to feel like the best night of their lives, not a formal ceremony in a ballroom.

Dave and Bailey's wedding at Rudy's was exactly that. It was intimate, it was loose, it was deeply fun — and the photography reflected it. The warm interior light, the skyline backdrop, the candid moments at the bar — Rudy's gives photographers a rich, layered visual environment that works beautifully even after the sun goes down. If you're planning a smaller wedding (under 120 guests) and want a venue with genuine personality, Rudy's is worth a very serious look.

Style Industrial-Chic / Intimate / Urban
Best For Smaller weddings (under 120), couples who want a party atmosphere
Location 268 Edmonton St, Winnipeg (Exchange District)

What Makes It Special for Photography

Rudy's is a photographer's dream for reception coverage. The warm, layered lighting — Edison bulbs, candlelight, the glow of the city outside the windows — creates a naturally flattering, moody atmosphere that produces beautiful reception photographs without a flash. The exposed brick and wood tones add texture and depth to every frame. The floor-to-ceiling windows facing the Exchange District skyline give you a genuine Winnipeg backdrop for portraits after the ceremony. The venue's intimate scale also means guests stay close together, which leads to more genuine, connected candid moments throughout the night.

Things to Know Before You Book

Rudy's is a working restaurant and event space, so availability and event buyouts should be confirmed directly with their events team. The capacity is best suited to smaller, more intimate guest lists — if you're planning 150+ guests, you'll want to look at larger venues. That said, for couples prioritizing atmosphere, personality, and a truly fun night, smaller guest counts at Rudy's often produce a better experience than a half-empty ballroom at a larger venue. "Rudy's has the best light of any reception venue in the city. Warm, layered, moody — and those windows looking out over the Exchange District are stunning after dark."

Venue 07 — Ashgrove Acres

If you want golden hour that makes your jaw drop, Ashgrove Acres is the answer. This countryside property outside Winnipeg is one of the most photogenic wedding venues in Manitoba — and one of the most underbooked, which means you're less likely to have a wedding that looks like everyone else's. The white fence. The open fields. The mature trees. The light that arrives in long, horizontal beams in the last hour before sunset. It's the kind of venue that doesn't need you to bring much — the land does the work.

Brandon and Selena's summer wedding at Ashgrove Acres was one of my favourite days I've ever shot. The outdoor ceremony was set among the trees, the tented reception had chandeliers and white draping and coral florals by Callia Flowers, and then the golden hour portraits happened — and everything else fell away. That image of them twirling in front of the white fence, sun flare coming through, the whole Manitoba sky behind them? That's why I shoot weddings.

Ashgrove Acres is the right venue for couples who want a countryside aesthetic without roughing it. The property is well-maintained, the tented reception space is genuinely elegant, and the grounds offer enough visual variety to keep a full wedding day interesting from first look to last dance. It's also a venue where outdoor ceremonies feel entirely natural — no awkward church-to-tent transitions, no guests squinting in the sun. Everything is designed around the land. Read the full story of Brandon & Selena's Ashgrove Acres wedding here.

Best For Countryside & Outdoor Weddings
Season Spring through Fall
Standout Feature Golden hour & white fence portraits

From a photography standpoint, the single most important thing about Ashgrove Acres is the light. Manitoba summer evenings are long — the sun doesn't fully set until after 9 PM near the solstice — and at Ashgrove Acres, that light filters across the property in a way that feels cinematic without any effort. If you schedule your portraits for the last hour before sunset, you will have images that genuinely look like magazine work. The property's open fields, white fence, and tree lines create natural framing and depth that most photographers only dream about.

Ashgrove Acres is also a venue where details matter. Their Instagram @Ashgroveacerd305 shows the care that goes into every event. For couples planning an outdoor summer wedding in Manitoba, it deserves to be at the top of your shortlist.

Venue 08 — The Leaf at Assiniboine Park

The Leaf opened in 2022 as part of the Assiniboine Park Conservancy's expansion and immediately became one of the most unique wedding venues in all of Canada — not just Winnipeg. It's a world-class botanical garden housed in a sweeping glass and steel building designed to evoke a giant leaf in cross-section. Inside, multiple climate-controlled biomes hold thousands of plant species from tropical, arid, and diverse ecosystems. The centrepiece is a dramatic living plant wall — a floor-to-ceiling tapestry of green in every texture — and the tropical biome, with towering palms and tree ferns under a vaulted glass ceiling, is unlike anything else you can book in Manitoba.

I photographed Liam and Tanya's intimate 4-person wedding here in summer 2025 — just the two of them, two witnesses, and the botanical garden. The ceremony images from inside The Leaf's tropical biome are among the most striking I've made: the couple surrounded by palms, soft glass-filtered light overhead, the kiss framed by tropical fronds in black and white. And then they walked outside to the tree-lined promenade of Assiniboine Park for portraits — two completely different worlds within five minutes of each other.

Best For Intimate ceremonies, elopements, small weddings
Location 2355 Corydon Ave, Winnipeg (inside Assiniboine Park)

What Makes It Special for Photography

The Leaf gives you something no other venue in Winnipeg can: a genuinely living backdrop. The tropical biome's soaring palms, layered ferns, and glass ceiling create a photography environment that looks completely different from any ballroom, barn, or country club. The diffused light from the glass roof is soft and flattering — no harsh shadows, no colour casting from artificial lights. The living plant wall provides a graphic, textured backdrop that photographs strikingly in both colour and black and white. And then walking outside to Assiniboine Park immediately doubles your portrait options: tree-lined avenues, English Garden paths, open meadows, and soft green canopy light.

Things to Know Before You Book

The Leaf is particularly well-suited to intimate and small weddings — 4 to 30 guests — where the botanical garden setting can be experienced fully rather than overwhelmed by a large crowd. Contact the Assiniboine Park Conservancy directly to inquire about ceremony bookings. Read the full story of Liam & Tanya's intimate wedding at The Leaf here.

Also Worth Knowing — Honourable Mentions

Beyond the eight venues above — where I have personally shot weddings — here are several other Winnipeg and Manitoba wedding venues that regularly come up in conversations with couples I work with:

The Forks National Historic Site

The Forks is one of Winnipeg's most beloved gathering places and a beautiful backdrop for outdoor ceremonies and portraits. The riverwalk, the historic warehouse district, and the confluence of the Red and Assiniboine rivers all offer distinctive photographic opportunities. Several event spaces within The Forks complex are available for receptions. Especially photogenic at blue hour and in winter with the skating rink lit up.

Inn at the Forks

Winnipeg's most contemporary boutique hotel, located at The Forks with views of the river. The Inn at the Forks offers a modern, clean aesthetic that photographs beautifully for couples who want something sleek and editorial rather than historic or grand. Their event spaces pair well with outdoor portraits at The Forks riverwalk.

Prairie Acreages & Rural Manitoba Venues

Some of the most memorable weddings I've photographed have been on private acreages and rural Manitoba properties — where the sky is wide, the horizon is endless, and golden hour lasts forever. If you're open to a venue outside city limits, Manitoba's rural landscape is one of the most underrated wedding backdrops in Canada. The prairies in late summer are genuinely extraordinary.
