Bel Acres
Gin & Marieanne's Wedding

October 2025

Winnipeg Wedding Photographer — Chris Ngo

October 10, 2025. Gin Centina and Marieanne Merene got married at Bel Acres Golf and Country Club in Rosser, Manitoba — just outside Winnipeg, out where the prairie opens up and the sky does what it wants. Two brides. Two getting-ready mornings. A first look at 1:00 PM on the course. An outdoor ceremony as the October light went gold. And sunset portraits at 6:46 that neither of them will forget for the rest of their lives. This is that day, from beginning to end.

Getting Ready

Two brides. Two locations. Two completely different mornings converging on the same moment. Marieanne and her girls started at the Bel Acres bridal cottage at 6:00 AM — hair and makeup, champagne, the quiet hum of something enormous getting closer. Gin and the guys were at the Sandman Hotel, doing the same thing in their own way, in their own rhythm. I moved between the two, chasing the light and the feeling.

What I love about getting-ready coverage is that the images are never really about hair and makeup. They're about the space between the action — a bride sitting still while someone works on her veil, a sister saying something that breaks the room. These are the photographs that couples always tell me they forgot they had until they open their gallery and remember exactly how that morning felt.

The First Look

At 1:00 PM we set up the first look on the Bel Acres grounds. This is always one of my favourite moments in any wedding day — the private reveal before the ceremony, before the crowd, before everything becomes official. I positioned Gin with her back turned, walked Marieanne up behind her, and stepped back. Everything that happened next was entirely theirs.

There's a case to be made for seeing each other at the altar, and I understand it. But there's an equally strong case for this — two people meeting each other in private before they meet each other in public. The first look gives you a version of that revelation that belongs only to you. And it loosens everything. By the time the ceremony starts, you're not nervous — you've already said something real.

Wedding Party & Family

From 1:45 PM we moved through the wedding party photos and family formals on the Bel Acres grounds. The course gave us room — open sky, the gentle roll of the fairways, a horizon that doesn't compete with the people in front of it. A golf course in October is a better backdrop than most people realize: the greens are still lush, the air carries a crispness that makes everyone stand a little straighter, and the flat light of early afternoon on an open property is remarkably flattering.

Gin and Marieanne's wedding party was large and loud in the best way. The energy of the getting-ready morning — scattered across two buildings, two groups — finally came together in one place. And the family photos had their own texture: Gin with her parents and brother, Marieanne with hers, and then the full extended families, the sponsors, the dogs (Skye and Thor made it into more frames than most guests), and the flower girl Luna holding her bouquet with complete seriousness.

The Ceremony

The ceremony started at 4:00 PM at the Bel Acres outdoor ceremony site. By October, the Manitoba sun sits lower in the sky — which means by 4:00 PM you're already into the long, warm part of the day. The light was directional and gold and forgiving. Everything looked exactly the way it should look on a wedding day.

Gin and Marieanne were married by their friend Irene Del Monte, which is the kind of thing that changes the temperature of a ceremony completely. When the person saying the words knows you — actually knows you — the whole thing settles into something more personal, more specific, more real. The guests felt it. I felt it through the viewfinder. This wasn't a ceremony being performed. It was two people being witnessed.

Marieanne walked down the aisle and Gin watched her come. That image doesn't need a caption. The rest of the ceremony moved through vows, rings — both from Ben Moss — and a kiss that the crowd was waiting for. Luna held her bouquet the entire time without dropping a petal. Skye and Thor, stationed near the back with a very responsible family member, held it together.

Cocktail Hour

After the ceremony, guests spread across the indoor and outdoor Bel Acres spaces for cocktail hour. The light was still warm — it was just past 5:00 PM, and the sun had another 90 minutes before it set. The course looked its best in this window: the shadows grew long, the grass went from green to amber, and everyone was loose and happy in the particular way that only the first hour after a ceremony produces.

Cocktail hour is often photographed as filler — guests with glasses, details on tables. I don't approach it that way. These are real moments between real people, and the room during cocktail hour tells you everything about how a community feels about two people getting married. Gin and Marieanne had built something real here. It showed.

The Reception

The Diner Hall opened at 6:00 PM. The grand entrance brought the wedding party in one by one — the kind of entrance that builds and builds until the room hits its peak and Gin and Marieanne walk through to a crowd that has been saving that energy all day. The first dance was at 6:20 PM. Then dinner. Then the table blitz — five minutes of running table to table for quick group shots while everyone is seated, which sounds chaotic and is, but produces some of the most genuine photographs of the whole evening.

Speeches followed. The emcee was Jennifer Garcia, and she had the room in her hands from the beginning. The speeches themselves were the kind that make you laugh and then catch you off guard when the laughter turns into something else. By 7:30 PM the dance floor was open, and the rest of the evening belonged to Gin and Marieanne and the people who love them most.

Sunset Portraits

At 6:46 PM we slipped out. That's all it takes — 20 minutes, the two of them, the Bel Acres course going completely gold as the Manitoba sun dropped below the horizon line. This is why the timeline matters. This is why I push to have sunset built in, even when the schedule is full and the evening is in motion.

An October sunset in Manitoba at a golf course is not a subtle thing. The prairie is flat, which means the light travels unobstructed right to the edge of the frame. The fairways were amber. The sky was layered. Gin and Marieanne stood in the middle of it while their whole reception waited inside, and for twenty minutes the world was just them and the light and me trying to keep up with both.

The Dance Floor

We went back inside and the night took over. The father/daughter dance, the money dance, the bouquet toss. By 8:30 PM the floor was packed and the tempo had shifted — no more formality, no more structure, just the energy that builds when a community of people who love each other all end up in the same room with music at the right volume.

I've shot a lot of dance floors. The best ones aren't about the dancing — they're about the faces in the crowd. The sister who's been crying all day and is now the loudest person in the room. The parents watching from the edge. The flower girl completely horizontal on a chair with her shoes off. Gin and Marieanne in the middle of all of it, married, surrounded by everyone who came to watch them become that.

Questions & Answers

FAQ — Bel Acres Wedding Photography

What is Bel Acres Golf and Country Club like for a wedding?

Bel Acres Golf and Country Club in Rosser, Manitoba is a full-day outdoor venue with a dedicated outdoor ceremony site, a bridal cottage for getting-ready preparation, an indoor Diner Hall for the reception, and expansive golf course grounds for portraits. The open fairways create wide, clean backgrounds for formal photographs, and the course orientation means golden-hour light arrives unobstructed in the late afternoon — particularly valuable for fall October weddings when the sun drops low and warm. See our full photographer's guide at ngophotography.ca/bel-acres-wedding-photographer.

What time of year photographs best at Bel Acres?

Bel Acres in October is exceptional. The Manitoba fall palette — amber, gold, and the last of the green — wraps the course in tones that read beautifully in photographs. The sun angle in October sits lower in the sky from mid-afternoon on, which means you get warm, directional light for an outdoor ceremony starting at 4:00 PM that would be harsh or flat in summer. The grass at this time of year is still lush, the air is crisp, and the light at sunset is the kind that makes every image from the back half of the day feel like it was lit on purpose.

Can you have both the ceremony and reception at Bel Acres?

Yes — Bel Acres hosts the full day. The outdoor ceremony site is separate from the reception hall, which means guests move through the grounds naturally over the course of the evening. The bridal cottage handles getting-ready for the wedding party. Cocktail hour can flow between the indoor and outdoor spaces. And the Diner Hall provides a dedicated reception space for dinner, dancing, and the evening program. There is no need to travel between venues, which gives the photographer more time on-site and eliminates timeline gaps.

What does it cost to book Ngo Photography for a Bel Acres wedding?

Wedding photography with Ngo Photography starts at $3,500. A full 10-hour wedding day at Bel Acres — covering getting-ready, first look, formals, ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, and evening dancing — would typically fall within the full-day coverage package. Reach out through the inquiry form at ngophotography.ca/investment to discuss availability and package details.

Is Bel Acres a good venue for an LGBTQ+ wedding?

Gin and Marieanne's wedding at Bel Acres was a full, joyful celebration — two brides, a large and loving community of family and friends, and a venue that supported every element of their day. From a photography perspective, Bel Acres provides the same quality of light, space, and setting for every couple, regardless of how their wedding party is structured or how they identify. Manitoba has been a welcoming province for LGBTQ+ weddings, and Bel Acres fits naturally into that.
