Tips for Breezy Bend Couples
Protect the golden hour window in your timeline
In late summer, golden hour at Breezy Bend falls roughly 7–8 PM. Build your portrait block to end on the course during that window. The 45 minutes before and after sunset on those fairways is genuinely some of the most beautiful light available at any Winnipeg-area wedding venue. Talk to your photographer about a timeline that protects that window — it's worth rearranging everything else to get it.
Gardens first, golf course last
The gardens near the clubhouse are beautiful in full afternoon light — colourful flowers, interesting textures, good dappled shade. Start your formal and wedding party portraits there, then move to the open fairways for your couple session as the light drops and softens. The contrast between the two environments gives you a much more dynamic gallery.
Let your wedding party be themselves
Paul and Ayanna's wedding party didn't need direction — they needed a camera pointed at them and permission to be exactly who they are. If your people have that energy, lean into it. Some of the best images from this day came from moments that were completely unscripted. The golf shot. The crowd reaction. The train fix. All of it happened without me asking.
Lean into the country club setting
Some couples feel self-conscious about incorporating the golf course into their photos. Don't. Breezy Bend is a stunning venue precisely because of the open landscape — wide-angle views, dramatic skies, and a sense of scale you simply can't replicate indoors. Use the whole property. As a Winnipeg wedding photographer who's worked at Breezy Bend, I'll always advocate for at least 20 minutes on the fairway. It earns its place every time.
Paul and Ayanna — this day was everything. The colours, the chaos, the golf shot, the golden hour, the way your whole crew showed up for you. I couldn't have asked for a more alive wedding to photograph. Thank you for having me.
